Gravity is an undergroundindependent record label fromSan Diego.[2] It was formed in1991 by Matt Anderson, a member of the influential underground bandHeroin.[3] It has been central in developing and promoting the "San Diego sound" – an idiosyncratic form ofpost-hardcore with loose, chaotic musicianship and vocals, initiated by Heroin,Antioch Arrow, and Clikatat Ikatowi, as well asMohinder from the Bay Area and Angel Hair from Colorado.[4][5] The sound is associated with the first wave ofscreamo, and the label played an important role in the development ofpost-hardcore in the 1990s.[4][6] Gravity has also branched out into other forms ofexperimental orindependent music, releasing seminal early works byUnwound,Black Dice,The Rapture, and a full-length fromMan Is The Bastard. The label has no affliation with the Capitol Records subsidiary Gravity Inc Records.
