Graphics Layout Engine (GLE) is agraphicsscripting language designed for creating publication qualitygraphs, plots, diagrams, figures and slides.[1][2] GLE supports various graph types such as function plots, histograms, bar graphs, scatter plots, contour lines, color maps and surface plots through a simple but flexible set of graphing commands. More complex output can be created by relying on GLE's scripting language, which is full featured withsubroutines, variables, andlogic control. GLE relies onLaTeX for text output and supports mathematical formula in graphs and figures. GLE's output formats includeEPS,PS,PDF,JPEG, andPNG.
The GLE software dates back to the early 1990s[3] and it is still under active development. Currently, GLE development is hosted onGitHub.[4]
GLE is available for all major operating systems includingMicrosoft Windows,Mac OS X, andUnix. It is included inLinux distributions such asDebian,[5]Fedora,[6] andSUSE.[7]
GLE is licensed under theBSD license. QGLE, the GLE user interface, is licensed under theGPL license.
