Gracilornis is anextinctgenus of earlybird from the lowerCretaceous (Aptian stage). It is acathayornithidenantiornithine which lived in what is now westernLiaoning Province,China. It is known from a nearly completeskull andpostcranialskeleton, which was found from theJiufotang Formation, inChaoyang. It was first named by Li Li and Hou Shilin in2011 and thetype species isGracilornis jiufotangensis. Thegeneric name is derived fromLatingracilis, "slender" andGreekornis, "bird", and refers to its slender skeleton. Thespecific name was named after theJiufotang Formation, in which theholotype was collected.[1]
