Grégory Anquetil (born 14 December 1970)[1] is a former Frenchteam handball player, who was part of theFrench team that won the1995 World Championship; the first time France won a major international tournament. He also competed at the1996 Summer Olympics, where he placed fourth, and also at the2000 and2004 Summer Olympics.[2] At club level he played almost his entire career forMontpellier Handball.
After his retirement from the sport, he provides commentary for handball matches for Canal plus.[3]
Anquetil started playing at his hometown club Gonfreville l'Orcher HB. In 1988 he joined Montpellier Handball which at the time played in the second tier of French handball.[4] In 1992 he was promoted with the team to thetop league in France. His finest accomplishment at club level came on 2003, when he won theEHF Champions League with the club. Additionally, he won the French championship in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.[citation needed]
He debuted for theFrench national team on 20 December 1994 against Norway in a preparation match for the 1995 World Championship.[4]
