TheGovernment of Uttarakhand, also known as theState Government of Uttarakhand (earlierUttaranchal), or locally asState Government, is thesubnational government of theIndianstate ofUttarakhand and its13 Districts. It consists of anexecutive branch, led by theGovernor of Uttarakhand, alegislative branch led by theChief Minister of Uttarakhand and ajudiciary branch, led by theChief Justice of Uttarakhand.
Like other states in India, thehead of state of Uttarakhand is theGovernor, appointed by thePresident of India on the advice of theUnion Government of India. The position of governor is largely ceremonial. TheChief Minister is thehead of government and is vested the executive powers. CurrentlyBhararisain is the summer[1][2][3] andDehradun is the winter capital of Uttarakhand, and houses theVidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) and the Secretariat in each capital. TheUttarakhand High Court, located inNainital exercises jurisdiction over the whole state.[4]
The presentunicameral legislature of Uttarakhand is theLegislative Assembly of Uttarakhand. It comprises 70Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).[5]
