Government of Haryana, also known as theState Government of Haryana, or locally as theHaryana Government, is the supreme governing authority of the Indian state ofHaryana and its22 districts. It consists of anexecutive, ceremonially led by theGovernor of Haryana and otherwise by theChief Minister, ajudiciary, and alegislative branch.
The head of state of Haryana is the Governor, appointed by thePresident of India on the advice of the central government. TheChief Minister of Haryana is the head ofCouncil of Ministers of Haryana and is vested with most of the executive powers to run the22 districts of Haryana across itssix divisions.[2]
Chandigarh is the capital of Haryana and houses theHaryana Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) and the secretariat. The city also serves as the capital ofPunjab, and is aunion territory of India.
The presentLegislative Assembly of Haryana isunicameral, consisting of 90members of the legislative assembly (MLAs). Its term is five years, unless dissolved earlier.[3]
ThePunjab and Haryana High Court, located in Chandigarh, has jurisdiction over the whole state.[4]
