Goosepond Mountain State Park, also known asGoose Pond Mountain State Park,[5] is a 1,706-acre (6.90 km2) undevelopedstate park located inOrange County,New York.[2] The park is located within theTown of Chester and is administered by thePalisades Interstate Park Commission.[1]

Park description

Goosepond Mountain State Park is an undeveloped park, and is available for passive recreation such as hiking, horseback riding, and bird watching.[1] A small section is accessible to casual hikers via aboardwalk, and there are additional extensive trails for hikers and horseback riders. Part of the area is a wetland used as abird sanctuary.

The loyalist leaderClaudius Smith may have used a rock shelter in the area as a hideout during theAmerican Revolutionary War.[6]
