Google Contacts is acontact management service developed byGoogle. It is available as anAndroid mobile app, aweb app, or on the sidebar ofGmail as part ofGoogle Workspace.
Google Contacts originated as the built-incontacts manager inGmail, which was introduced in 2007.[4] It was later released as anAndroid app forNexus devices in 2010,[5] before it became available for all Android phones in 2015.[6] A standaloneweb application was released the same year, featuring a revampeduser interface.[7] It returned to Gmail in the form of a sidebar in 2020 as part ofGoogle Workspace.[8]
The service can also besynchronized withApple'sContacts app oniOS andSamsung's Contacts app onGalaxy.[9][10] It could also be synced withGoogle Sync before its discontinuation.[11]
In 2011, with the introduction of higher-density screens and larger internal memories on Android devices, Google Contacts was heavily criticized for only supporting lower-resolution photos inAndroid Jelly Bean.[12] This limitation was lifted the following year.[13]
