Gobindobhog (Bengali:গোবিন্দভোগ) is arice cultivated mostly inWest Bengal inIndia. It is a short grain,white,aromatic,sticky rice having a sweet butteryflavor. It derives its name from its usage as the principal ingredient in the preparation of the offerings toGovindaji, the family deity of the Setts of Kolkata.[1]
Gobindobhog was traditionally cultivated in the districts ofBardhaman,Hooghly,Nadia andBirbhum. Later, it began to be cultivated inBankura andPurulia.[2]

In August 2017, the Gobinobhog rice was allotted thegeographical indication tag ofWest Bengal by theGovernment of India.[3]
