Glynco is an area inGlynn County,Georgia located on the northwestern edge ofBrunswick, Georgia. Glynco is aportmanteau of the words "Glynn County".[1]
In 1942, theNaval Air Station Glynco was established on the area now known as Glynco.[2] After the area was no longer used for the Naval Air station (1974), 2,003 acres (8.11 km2) of the land (including therunway) was used for theBrunswick Golden Isles Airport and 1,500 acres (6.1 km2) of it for the headquarters ofFederal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC).[3] FLETC has its ownUnited States Postal ServiceZIP code, 31524.[4] TheUS Census lists Glynn County, Georgia as having 85,219 residents.[5]
