TheGlobal Academy is aUniversity Technical College located onThe Old Vinyl Factory[1] site inHayes, London.[2][3]
The UTC opened in September 2016[4] and is sponsored by the media and entertainment groupGlobal[5] and by theUniversity of the Arts London.[6]
In its first year, 100 students started in Year 10 and 100 in Year 12. In its second year, 150 students started in Year 10 and 75 in Year 12. The Academy will eventually have 800 students.[citation needed][when?]
On 20 April 2017, the academy was officially opened by theDuke of Cambridge andPrince Harry in their capacity as patrons of "Heads Together", a mental health charity. Two breakfast shows from Global radio stations were broadcast live from the Academy:Heart London Breakfast withJamie Theakston andEmma Bunton andNick Ferrari onLBC.[7]
The academy has an online student radio station and TV channel, Youths Choice.[8]
On 25 June 2024, James Murray-Walsh was appointed Principal of the Global Academy.[9] On 22 November 2024, Shahlaa Tahira was appointed as Director of Industry Partnerships and Careers.[10]
In March 2025, and following anOfsted inspection, the Global Academy was awarded an outstanding rating.[11]
