Ghostheads is a 2016documentary aboutGhostbustersfans, produced by Tommy Avallone and directed by Brendan Mertens. It featuresDan Aykroyd,Ivan Reitman,Sigourney Weaver, andPaul Feig.Ghostheads was mainly funded by anIndiegogo andKickstarter campaigns. The film premiered as a Work-in-Progress at the 2016Tribeca Film Festival and became available onNetflix in July 2016.

History

Film production started in the fall of 2015.[1] It was partiallycrowdfunded: aIndiegogo campaign started on October 29, 2015, and aKickstarter campaign was launched on February 11, 2016.[3][4][5]

In April 2016,Ghostheads premiered as a Work in Progress at the 2016Tribeca Film Festival.[6][7] At the end of June 2016 it was announced thatGhostheads will premiere onNetflix on July 15.[8] The term Ghosthead was coined by Norman "Paranorman" Gagnon on July 3, 1996.

Plot

The film documents theGhostbusters fan community, presented mainly through the story ofNew Jersey resident Tom Gebhardt.[1][9] In general, the documentary shows howGhostbusters film affection helped various people through life.[10]

Reception

The film was highly anticipated by theGhostbusters film fans,[11] however, some of them were critical to the very idea of making such a film.[12] A popular critical comment to the film was that its subjects were almost overwhelmingly white and male.[10][9]
