Ghedi Air Base (Italian:Base aerea di Ghedi,ICAO:LIPL) is a base of theItalian Air Force inGhedi, about 15 kilometres fromBrescia,northern Italy.
It is home to the6º Stormo of theItalian Air Force with the102º Gruppo (Papero) withF-35A Lightning II, the154º Gruppo (Diavoli Rossi) withF-35A Lightning II and the155º Gruppo (Le linci) withTornado ECR.
It is one of six active air bases in five European countries withB61 nuclear bombs in undergroundWS3 Weapon Storage and Security System inside aircraft shelters.[3] and as of 2019 housed more than 40 nuclear weapons.[4]
The commander since 2017 is the Italian Air Force Colonel Luca Maineri.[5]
