Germansweek is a village andcivil parish in theWest Devon district, to the west ofOkehampton in the county ofDevon, England.[1][2]

The place-nameGermansweek is first attested in theDomesday Book of 1086, where it appears asWica. It appears asWyk in 1242 in theBook of Fees, and asWyke in 1270 andWyke Germyn in 1458 in theFeet of Fines. The 'week' element is theOld English 'wic', from the Latin 'vicus', meaning a farm or village. The 'Germans' element comes from the dedication of the church toSt Germanus of Auxerre.[3]
