George Hirthler is an American writer.[1] He is best known for writing the novelThe Idealist, which earned him thePierre de Coubertin medal from theInternational Olympic Committee.[2][3]

Hirthler began researching theOlympic Games in 1989.[2] His novelThe Idealist was published by the Ringworks Press in 2016.[2][4] On June 23, 2022, he was awarded thePierre de Coubertin medal along with the artistRolf Lukaschewski.[3]
