George Burgess (biologist)

American biologist

George H. Burgess is anichthyologist^[2] andfisheries biologist with theFlorida Museum of Natural History,University of Florida. He is the former^[1] director of theInternational Shark Attack File and author/coauthor of numerous books and papers on sharks and other fish.

Burgess retired in 2017. TheFlorida Museum of Natural History highlighted that he "always stressed the importance of shark conservation."^[1]

Etmopterus burgessi, sometimes known as thebroad-snout lanternshark, is named for him.^[4]
