George Adomian (March 21, 1922 – June 17, 1996) was an Americanmathematician,aerospace engineer, and academic ofArmenian descent. He developed theAdomian decomposition method (ADM) for solvingnonlinear differential equations, both ordinary and partial. The method is explained, among other places, in his bookSolving Frontier Problems in Physics: The Decomposition Method (Kluwer, Dordrecht, 2004).[1]

He was educated atCass Technical High School in Detroit. He earned a bachelor's of science at theUniversity of Michigan and a PhD in physics fromUCLA.[1]

He was a professor atPennsylvania State University from 1964-66, and then was Chair of Applied Mathematics at theUniversity of Georgia (UGA) from 1966 through 1989. While at UGA, he started theCenter for Applied Mathematics.[1]
