George Abraham (جورج إبراهيم) is aPalestinian Americanpoet. He is the author ofBirthright andthe specimen's apology. Abraham is the Executive Editor ofMizna.
Abraham received their M.S. inBioengineering atHarvard University, studying how predictions can affect the brain's process for learning motor tasks.[1] As of 2021, he was a student in the Litowitz Creative Writing program atNorthwestern University inEvanston.[2]
Abraham was named "Best Poet" at the 2017College Union Poetry Slam International.[3] In 2018, they won the Cosmonauts Avenue Poetry Prize, judged byTommy Pico.[4] They are a board member forRAWI (Radius of Arab American Writers)[5] and aKundiman fellow.[6]
Their illustrated chapbookthe specimen's apology was published in January 2019 bySibling Rivalry Press, and illustrated by Leila Abdelrazaq.[7] A review onThe Rumpus spoke positively of the use of form and interdisciplinary themes.[8] TheMichigan Quarterly Review commented on the complex portrayal of identity.[9]
Their full-length collectionBirthright was published in April 2020 byButton Poetry and received positive reviews.[10] In 2021,Birthright was a finalist for theLambda Literary Award for Bisexual Literature[11] and won theArab American Book Award for Poetry.[12]
