Geoffrey of Trani[1] (? inTrano,Apulia – 1245) was an Italian jurist, known as acanon lawyer. He was a student atBologna ofAzo before becoming a professor at Naples, then at Bologna.[2] He was made acardinal deacon byPope Innocent IV. HisSumma super titulis decretalium[3] and other writings ondecretals became a basic resource for canon law.[4]
