General Lasalle at the Siege of Stettin is an 1808portrait painting by the FrenchartistAntoine-Jean Gros.[1][2] Combining portraiture with elements ofhistory painting it depictsAntoine Charles Louis de Lasalle against the backdrop of theSiege of Stettin during theNapoleonic Wars.
It was displayed at theSalon of 1808 at theLouvre inParis, the same year the artist enjoyed great success with hisNapoleon on the Battlefield of Eylau. Acclaimed as one of the leaving history painters along withJacques-Louis David, he was awarded theLegion of Honour byNapoleon at the end of the Salon.[3] Today the painting is in theArmy Museum in Paris. A replica is in theMuseum of French History in thePalace of Versailles.[4]
