Gary Scott Winick (March 31, 1961 – February 27, 2011)[1] was an American filmmaker whose films as a director includeTadpole (2002) and13 Going on 30 (2004), and who also produced such films asPieces of April (2003) andNovember (2004) through his New York City-basedindependent film production company InDigEnt.

Biography

Born inManhattan,New York City, Gary Winick attendedColumbia Grammar and Preparatory School in that borough,[1] graduating in 1979.[citation needed] A 1984 graduate ofTufts University,[2] he went on to receiveMaster of Fine Arts degrees from both theUniversity of Texas at Austin and theAFI Conservatory.[3]

Winick directed the filmsOut of the Rain (1991),Tadpole (2002),13 Going on 30 (2004), and the live-action remake ofCharlotte's Web (2006).[4] His final films wereBride Wars andLetters to Juliet.[5] He produced such films asPieces of April (2003) andNovember (2004) through his New York City-basedindependent film production company InDigEnt, founded in 1999.[6]

Death

Winick died in Manhattan on February 27, 2011, following a years-long battle withbrain cancer. He was 49 years old.[7][1]
