Garuda Linux is anArch Linux-based,Linux distribution targeted towards gaming.[2][3] It offers multipledesktop environments, but theKDE Plasma version is the default.[4] The distribution is named afterGaruda, the divine eagle mount of the godVishnu inHinduism.[5]
Garuda Linux, being based on the Arch derivativeManjaro, features arolling release update model usingPacman as itspackage manager.[2]
Garuda Linux was released on 26 March 2020 by Shrinivas Vishnu Kumbhar, a university student from India, and SGS from Germany.[6]

The operating system providesGUIs for all operations, instead of focusing on the command line like Arch Linux.[7] Garuda Linux installation process is done withCalamares, a graphical installer. Thebootloader used isGRUB. The distribution uses thebtrfs file system by default which supports snapshots.[3] The snapshots can be accessed from the bootloader and support compression.[3] Garuda includesManjaro's pamac GUI frontend for Pacman that allows for the installation of packages from pacman,Snap, andFlatpak packages.[8] Support for theAUR is provided by Chaotic-AUR. Thecommand line can also be used. It also includes Garuda Settings Manager, a program for system settings such as the kernel, and Garuda Assistant for changing admin settings.[5] The main theme of Garuda Linux is a custom KDE Plasma theme known as Dr460nized (dragonized) which resembles a stylizedmacOS.[7]
Garuda Linux includes Garuda Gamer, a GUI offering easy installation of gaming related packages.[5][2]
Therolling release model results in all system software components getting updated during normal software updates, instead of waiting for major operating system version updates.[4]
