Garrison Hall (abbreviatedGAR) is a building located on theUniversity of Texas at Austin campus.[1] It is named after George Pierce Garrison (1853–1910), the history department's first chair and a founding member of theTexas State Historical Association.[2] Construction began in 1925 and finished the following year.[2]
In 1927, the University separated the Department ofPsychology out of the Department ofPhilosophy, and moved Psychology out of Garrison Hall and intoSutton Hall, where it would share space with the Department ofEducational Psychology for the next 25 years.[3]
Important figures inTexas history, includingAustin,Travis,Houston andLamar, are set in stone along the hall, while walls under the building'seaves containscattle brands.[4]
