Garmekan orGaramig was an earlySasanian province located in northernMesopotamia, between theLittle Zab andDiyala river.[1] Its capital wasKarka d-Beth Slokh.[2] The province is omitted inShapur I's (r. 240–270) list of provinces in theKa'ba-ye Zartosht inscription, which indicates that it was part ofNodshiragan during that period.[2] Garmekan is first attested as a Sasanian province in thePaikuli inscription ofNarseh (r. 271–293) in 293/4,[3] who describes how the aristocracy ofAsoristan, Garmekan, andShahrazur met him at Hayan i Nikatra in order to convince him to become the new king.[4] Before theCouncil of Seleucia-Ctesiphon in 410, Garmekan had been merged with the province of Nodshiragan, becoming known asGaramig ud Nodardashiragan.[3]
