Gareth Haggerty (born 8 September 1981) is a formerIreland internationalrugby league footballer. He played for theWidnes Vikings in theCo-operative Championship. He previously played forHarlequins RL,St Helens and theSalford City Reds all of whom play in theSuper League.[5]
Haggerty's usual position was as aprop. He is a specialist impact player, coming off the interchange bench.
Haggerty was born inSt Helens, Merseyside, England.
He is the son of formerSt. Helens forwardRoy Haggerty.
He was a member of theIreland squad for the2008 Rugby League World Cup.[6] Although relatively unknown in Australia prior to the tournament, his performances from the bench in the World Cup earned widespread praise from both fans and pundits, with many Australians going as far as to chant 'sign him up' during games.[citation needed]
