Gallogoral is anextinctgenus ofcaprinebovid that lived inEurope during thePliocene andPleistoceneepochs.

Geographic range

[edit]

ThespeciesG. meneghinii has been found inFrance,[1][2][3]Italy,[4][5]Greece,[6]Russia,[7] andGeorgia.[8]

Palaeoecology

[edit]

Fossil remains from Coste San Giacomo, dating to about 2.1 Ma, showG. meneghinii to have been a mixed feeder.[9][10] However, remains from the site of Olivola dating to around the time of theGelasian-Calabrian transition instead suggest thatG. meneghinii was agrazer, as evidenced by its dental wear showing signs of heavy consumption ofgrass, grit, anddust. It had a preference for mountainous habitats.[11]
