Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia (Basque:[ɡalderɣas̻teluurutia]; born 18 March 1974) is a Spanishfilm and advertising director and producer.[1] He made his feature-film debut withThe Platform (2019), a dystopian science fiction-horror film.
Gaztelu-Urrutia was born on 17 February 1974 inBilbao.[2] He completed his B.A. in business management with a specialization in international trade.[1]
In addition to directing the short films913 (2004) andThe House on the Lake (2011), he directed commercials. He made hisfeature film debut in 2019 with thedystopianscience fiction–horror filmThe Platform.[1] He noted that the point of the film is that "it isn't about a war between those above and those below — we all have someone above us and someone below us".[3]
In February 2023,Deadline announced that his next film will be a thriller titledRich Flu, starringMary Elizabeth Winstead andJonah Hauer-King.[4]
His third original film will beBanquet, which began production in November 2025. It starsMeghann Fahy,Alfie Williams,Corey Mylchreest, andFinbar Lynch, and will be produced byDavid Yates.[5]
Gaztelu-Urrutia has named Dante'sDivine Comedy as one of his literary influences forThe Platform, as well as films such as Buñuel'sThe Exterminating Angel (1962), Jeunet'sDelicatessen (1991), Ridley Scott'sBlade Runner (1982) and Scorsese'sTaxi Driver (1976).[6]
