A galactosylceramide

Agalactosylceramide, orgalactocerebroside is a type ofcerebroside consisting of aceramide with agalactose residue at the 1-hydroxyl moiety.

The galactose is cleaved bygalactosylceramidase.

Galactosylceramide is a marker foroligodendrocytes in the brain, whether or not they formmyelin.[1][2]
