Gabriela de Jesus Thomas Salgado (European Portuguese:[ɡɐβɾiˈɛlɐðɨʒɨˈzuʃtuˈmaʃsalˈɣaðu,-lɐdʒɨˈ-]; born 20 February 1998) is aSouth Africansoccer player who plays as amidfielder ordefender forSAFA Women's League clubJvW and theSouth Africa women's national team.

Early life

Salgado was born inJohannesburg,Gauteng to a father of Portuguese descent and a mother of Lebanese descent.[1]

International career

The first known game Salgado played in for theSouth African national team was in a 3-0 friendly loss againstZambia on 12 February 2022.[2] She had already been called up for the team on 22 January 2017, but was not used here againstFrance.[3]

On 23 June 2023, Salgado was added to the final squad at the2023 World Cup.[4]

Salgado was named in the South African squad for the2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.[5][6] On 22 July 2025, she a fractured her mid-shaft in her left leg during the semi-final match againstNigeria, ruling her out for the remainder of the year.[7][8]

Personal life

Salgado is in a relationship with South African football playerRobyn Moodaly.[9] They became engaged in December 2024.[10]
