Gabriel Alcides Alves (born 10 February 2000) is a Brazilian professionalfootballer who plays as adefender andmidfielder who plays forUSL League One clubTormenta FC.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil,[1] Alves moved to theUnited States and playedcollege soccer forMarshall University from 2020 until 2022.[1][2] He made a total of 52 appearances and scored two goals over three seasons for the Thundering Herd,[1][3] being a part of the team that won both the2020 Conference USA Regular Season[1][4] and the2020 NCAA College Cup,[1][5][6] with the latter trophy being Marshall's first-ever men's soccer national title, as well asConference USA's first-ever national championship in any team sport.[5][6] In the same year, he was named to the Conference USA's All-Conference Freshman Team.[1][7]
Havingcaptained the Herd throughout the2022 season, the team's first campaign in theSun Belt Conference, Alves was invited to the 2023MLS Showcase.[1]
On 26 January 2023, Alves signed his first professional contract withBirmingham Legion in theUSL Championship.[1][8][2]
On 11 March, he made his professional debut, being subbed on forDiba Nwegbo in the 77th minute of the Legion'sseason opener against thePittsburgh Riverhounds, which ended in a 1–1 draw.[9] He then scored his first professional goal on 25 March, giving the club a 1–0 league win overHartford Athletic.[10]
On 11 December 2023, Alves signed withRhode Island FC ahead of their inaugural USL Championship season.[11] He was released by Rhode Island following the 2024 season.[12]
Alves signed forUSL League One sideTormenta FC on 8 January 2025.[13]
