Gabriel Arellano Concepcion (Tagalog:[ˈgabɪkɔnsɛpˈʃon]; born 5 November 1964)[1] is aFilipino actor, singer and businessman. He began his show business career in the 1980s as a teen commercial model and is known for his debonair career in Philippine cinema.
He is currently an exclusive actor ofGMA Network[2] and exclusive talent ofSparkle GMA Artist Center[3] and exclusive talent ofGMA Pictures.[4] His accolades includes 1x Urian Best Actor Award,[5] 2x GAWAD Parangal Best TV Actor Award,[5] 2x FAMAS Best Supporting Actor Award,[5] aSeoul International Drama Award,[6] 3x PMPC Stars for Television Best Actor Award,[5] 5x PMPC Stars for Movies Best Actor Award,[5] including nominations for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor in Metro Manila Film Festivals.[5]
Concepcion made a comeback to film and TV in 2008. His successful comeback roles are in hit seriesIisa Pa Lamang,Dahil May Isang Ikaw,Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo andKahit Puso'y Masugatan. He transferred over to TV5 to do shows as well likeP. S. I Love You andCassandra: Warrior Angel in 2013, he starred inBukas na Lang Kita Mamahalin. In 2015, he transferred to GMA Network to star in hit shows such asBecause of You and his two-year dramaIka-6 na Utos, also he didLove You Two,First Yaya,First Lady,Stolen Life, andMy Guardian Alien.
Gabriel Arellano Concepcion was born inSan Juan, Metro Manila,Philippines. His parents were Rolando Concepcion (of Filipino—Spaniard descent) and Maria Lourdes Arellano. He was named after theArchangel Gabriel and was baptized at theConvent ofSantuario del Santo Cristo. He later attended bothMiriam College andLincoln University.[7]
On 23 September 1984, Concepcion married actressSharon Cuneta (already pregnant at the time with their unborn child) at theManila Cathedral of theImmaculate Conception in a grand televised wedding ceremony attended by former Philippine PresidentFerdinand Marcos Sr. andImelda Marcos, whom both served as their nuptial sponsors. TheCatholic wedding was officiated by the formerArchbishop of Manila, CardinalJaime Lachica Sin andMonsignor Augusto Pedrosa.
Concepcion is the great—grandson of the Filipino painter and architectJuan Arellano.[8]
Concepcion first appeared as a model in a 1980Close-Up toothpaste TV commercial.[9] He later starred in the Regal Films productionKatorse (English: Fourteen). From 1980 to 1995, he made 80 films and had several modeling and endorsement advertisements.[citation needed]
On 13 November 1988, Concepcion left for theUnited States despite not yet finishing his scenes for the filmPahiram ng Isang Umaga (English: "Let Me Borrow the Twilight"), directed byIshmael Bernal, causing the film's intended release date of December 25 (for the1988 Metro Manila Film Festival) to be moved next year.[10]
In 1995, he migrated to the United States for a real estate career inStockton, California.[11] In 2008, he returned part-time to Philippine show business.
In 1986, Concepcion campaigned alongside his former wifeSharon Cuneta for the re—election bid of formerPhilippine presidentFerdinand Marcos in the1986 Philippine presidential election.[12]
In 1988, he ran for mayor ofSan Juan,[13] but was not successful.
