G.H. Walker & Co. was aninvestment banking andbrokerage firm founded in 1900 byGeorge Herbert Walker, grandfather and great-grandfather ofPresidentsGeorge Herbert Walker Bush andGeorge Walker Bush, and located at1 Wall Street.
The firm was originally based inSt. Louis, Missouri.
In July 1973, the firm acquired the securities brokerage business of Laird, Inc.[1] The company, later known as G.H. Walker, Laird & Co., was sold toWhite Weld & Co. in October 1974.[2][3] White Weld, in turn, was sold toMerrill Lynch in 1978.
Other notable former employees includeBill Donaldson, later founder ofDonaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and chairman of theSecurities and Exchange Commission.[4]Bert Walker, later served as chairman and CEO ofStifel Financial in the late 1970s and 1980s.[5]
