Geoffrey Arthur WilliamsonMC (1895–1982) was an Englishclassicist and was a graduate ofOxford University. He was Senior Classics Master atNorwich School between 1922 and 1960.
Williamson was born in 1895.[1] He was awarded theMilitary Cross in 1918.[2]
He was a Classical Exhibitioner atWorcester College, Oxford University, graduating with a first class honours degree.[1]
In 1922 he became the Senior Classics Master atNorwich School and served there until 1960.[1]
Williamson translated several important histories into the English language. His translation ofEusebius has been published byPenguin Classics.[3] He also translatedJosephus: The Jewish War (1959)[4] andProcopius: The Secret History (1966).[5] In 1969 his edition of thePoems of Catullus was published in The Alpha Classics series byGeorge Bell & Sons.[6]
He was the father of the organ builderMartin Williamson.[7][8]
