Leon Stap (sometimes spelledLeon Stop)[1] (September 24, 1928 – April 26, 1979) was an Americanmidget professional wrestler better known by hisring nameFuzzy Cupid. During his career, he was the frequenttag team partner of fellow midget wrestlerSky Low Low.[1]
Stap first saw a midget professional wrestling match in Texas,[1] and he decided to try the sport.[2] He later went to Detroit to train at the advice of promoterNorman Brown.[1] He debuted in 1952.[1] In the 1950s, he toured Ontario with other midget wrestlers such asLittle Beaver,Lord Littlebrook, andSky Low Low.[4] During the 1960s, he often teamed with Sky Low Low in matches.[1][2] The duo competed in theWorld Wide Wrestling Federation against the midget tag team ofTiny Tim andPancho López (wrestler).[2]
During his career, he often played the role of thebad guy and was on the receiving end of crowd violence.[1][2] Because of this violence, Stap endured a fractured vertebra and a four-inch blade wound.[1]
Retired in 1969.
The little information available about the personal life of Stap was originally from an article written byStanley Weston in the October 1959 edition ofMan's Magazine.[1] His parents were of normal height.[1] At the age of seven, Stap had infantileparalysis that caused him to be hospitalized for six years.[1] He did not enter public school until the age of seventeen.[1] Prior to entering the world of professional wrestling, he played the role of Grumpy in a traveling production ofSnow White.[1]
Stap died in 1976.[1]
