Freshmarket was a retail chain operated byŻabka Polska inPoland.[1] There were 16 stores across Poland. The retail turnover was about EUR 330 million in 2014.[2] The shops changed toŻabka by the end of 2019.[3]
The retailer was founded in 2009 by Polish entrepreneur Jacek Roszyk, then chairman ofŻabka Polska. The first retail store was open in 2009, inLeszno. In 2011, Freshmarket retail stores received the prize of Consumer's Laurel as the Discovery of the Year.[4][5] In 2011, Freshmarket was granted the label Market of the Year, based on a poll conducted by monthly business journalWiadmości Handlowe. The same year, the chain received the following awards:Największa Jakość (Highest Quality) andZłote Godło QI 2011 for providing the highest quality of service.[6][7] In 2013, the retail chain was once again nominated for the Market of the Year award. The shops are about to change toŻabka to end of 2019.[3]
Presently, the Freshmarket retail chain controls currently 16 proximity convenience stores. The chain, owned byŻabka Polska, has four distribution centres inPlewiska (south-west ofPoznań),Tychy,Nadarzyn andPruszcz Gdański.
Asconvenience stores, Freshmarket retail points sellconsumer packaged goods and food stuff ranges extending toready meals, hot snacks andsoft drinks viaself-service checkouts, open seven days a week from 06:00 to 23:00, located in city centres andsuburbs.
Apart from consumer retail, Freshmarket provides its customers with the opportunity to pay bills, sendlottery tickets, buy "pay-and-go"mobile phone packages and receivedebit card cashback. Freshmarket stores also contain FreshCafecafé counters, offeringcoffee andsnacks.[8]
