678 Fredegundis is aminor planet orbiting theSun. It was discovered 22 January 1909 from Heidelberg by German astronomerK. Wilhelm Lorenz, and was named after the French operaFrédégonde.[2] This object is orbiting at a distance of2.57 AU with aperiod of 4.13 years and aneccentricity (ovalness) of 0.22. Theorbital plane is inclined at an angle of 6.1° to theplane of the ecliptic[1]

This appears to be anM-type asteroid in theTholen classification andX-type in theBus and Binzel system. It spans a girth of approximately 42 km and is spinning with arotation period of 11.6201 hours.Radar observations suggest a bifurcated structure consistent with a contact binary.[3]
