Franziska Heinz (born 21 November 1972) is a former East German and German femalehandball player and coach. She was a member of theGermany women's national handball team that won the1993 World Championship.[1]

Playing career

On club level she played forBorussia Dortmund andSC Magdeburg. WithBorussia Dortmund she won the 1997DHB-Pokal and came second in the 1998Bundesliga.[2] In 1997 she was named the German Handballer of the year.[3]

She retired in 2002 due to an achilles injury.[4]

Later she became abeach handball player and won the 2010 German Beach Handball Championship.[5]

National team

Heinz played 187 matches for theGerman national team, scoring 374 goals.[6] In 1993 she won the1993 World Championship. A year later she won silver medals atinaugural European Championship in 1994.

She was part of the team at the1996 Summer Olympics, playing 4 matches.[7]

At the1997 World Championship, where Germany finished 3rd, she was named the best player at the tournament.[8]

In 2006 she won the European Beach Handball Championship with theGermany Beach Handball Team.[9]

Coaching career

After her playing days she became the youth coach atBorussia Dortmund.[10] In 2006 she became the assistent coach atBayer 04 Leverkusen.[4]

In 2009 she became the head coach of the 2nd Bundesliga teamSC Greven 09,[11] where she was until 2012.[12]

From 2014 she became the coach of the lower league side SC Westfalia Kinderhaus.[10] From 2016 to 2022 she coached the Oberliga team SC DJK Everswinkel.[13][14]
