Frank Van Tuyl Phillips (April 7, 1912 – April 12, 1994) was an Americancinematographer . He was born in 1912 inSan Bernardino, California . He was a director of photography and Disney and MGM Studios. His credits at MGM as a camera operator includeSingin' in the Rain andGiant . His Disney credits includeBedknobs and Broomsticks ,Pete's Dragon , andEscape to Witch Mountain . He was nominated for an Academy Award for his work onThe Black Hole . He also worked in television and received an Emmy nomination for his work onHawaii Five-0 .[ 1]
In 1965, he was involved in a boating accident that killed Robert King Baggott, second cameraman, during the production ofLt. Robin Crusoe, USN (1966).[ 2]
