Frank Raymond Strayer (September 21, 1891 – February 3, 1964)[1] was an actor,film writer, director and producer. He was active from the mid-1920s until the early 1950s. He directed a series of 14Blondie! (1938) movies as well.
Strayer attendedCarnegie Tech and then thePennsylvania Military Academy. After graduation, he served in the Navy during World War I. After the War, he found work atMetro Studios, which would later become known as MGM. While there, he worked as an assistant director and also acted in a few films. During the 1920s, he moved on to Columbia Pictures. While there, he became a successful writer, director and producer.[2]
Frank Strayer is credited with having directed 86 films. These include 14 movies in a series based on theBlondie and Dagwood comic strip,[3] dramas such asManhattan Tower (1931), starringMary Brian andJames Hall, and several horror films, includingThe Monster Walks (1932).[4] Unless otherwise noted, credits below are as listed in theAFI database.[5]
