François Pitot (naval officer)

French Navy officer

François Marie Pitot was aFrench Navy officer.

He took part in theBattle of Groix commanding the frigateRépublicaine française. In 1796, his ship, renamedRenommée, was captured by the 74-gun HMSAlfred. Pitot was acquitted by the court-martial for the loss of his ship.[1]

In 1800, he captainedVengeance, fighting abattle against USSConstellation.
