François Flückiger

François Flückiger is a French computer scientist who worked atCERN. He was selected for induction in 2013 in theInternet Hall of Fame.

Internet contributions

Flückiger was in charge of theCERN external network.[1][self-published source] He contributed to the creation ofCCIRN (Coordinating Committee for Intercontinental Research Network),RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens) andEbone (European Backbone).[2][3] Flückiger was inducted into theInternet Hall of Fame in August 2013 for his leadership in establishing the Internet in Europe.[4][5][6]

After the departure ofTim Berners-Lee from CERN, François Flückiger took over him to lead the web development technical team atCERN.[7][8] He chaired theInet1988,Inet2001 andInet2002 conference programme.[9]

Career

Between 2001 and 2011, he was aCERN openlab manager[10] and until 2013 he held the position of the Director of theCERN School of Computing.[11] He is Knowledge and Technology Transfer Officer for Information Technologies atCERN. He is a lecturer at theUniversity of Geneva, a member of theInternet Society Advisory Council and of theW3C Advisory Committee.

Flückiger is a graduate of theÉcole Supérieure d'Électricité (Supélec) and holds an MBA from theInstitut d'Administration des Entreprises in Paris.
