Playing career

Born inBayeux, Calvados, Née began his career atCaen, the local club that he supported. He made his debut for the newly promotedLigue 1 club in 1996–97, in which he had a three-month injury and they were instantly relegated. He turned down a move toNantes to play one more season inLigue 2, then took Bastia's offer over those of Lyon andMetz in the summer of 1998. In 2000–01, he scored 16 top-flight goals for theCorsicans.[3]

Née was signed by Lyon in 2001 to replaceSonny Anderson, who in the end did not leave theStade Gerland, and the further arrival ofPeguy Luyindula limited his playing chances more. He was due to start aUEFA Champions League match away toFC Barcelona because of the former's injury, but the game was postponed due to theSeptember 11 attacks, after which the Brazilian recovered and returned to the starting eleven. In January 2002, he suffered a knee injury in areserve team match and was ruled out for six months.[4]

He announced his retirement at the end of the 2006–07 season because of a recurrent injury.

Née was selected in theFrance national team's squad that won the2001 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Korea and Japan. He earned his only seniorcap on 1 June in a 1–0 loss toAustralia, starting the game and having a goal ruled out foroffside.[5]
