Fox's Confectionery Ltd is an Englishconfectionery company based inBraunstone,Leicester which was founded in 1880.
The company was set up by Walter Richard Fox as a wholesale grocery and confectionery business in 1880. It started in aVictorian warehouse in Leicester. By 1897 Fox was manufacturing over 100 different confectionery lines.[1]
In 1969, the company was acquired byMackintosh's, a year prior to the creation ofRowntree Mackintosh when Mackintosh merged withRowntree's of York. After purchasing Rowntree-Macintosh in 1988,Nestlé sold the Fox's Brand and its Leicester site toNorthern Foods in 2001. The company was sold toBig Bear Ltd in 2003. Big Bear Confectionery had sites in Blackburn, Leicester and Nimbus.
Peppy (frompeppermint)[2] thepolar bear is the original trademark used forFox's Glacier Mints and was created by Leicester-based artistC. Reginald Dalby, better known for illustratingThe Railway Series books by theRev. W. Awdry.[3]
Fox's Confectionery was acquired byValeo Foods in 2015.[4]
In Indonesia, Fox's candies are currently owned, manufactured and exported to numerous global markets by Savoria (a subsidiary ofDjarum Group, a leading Indonesian conglomerate). Fox's Indonesia was acquired by Djarum from Nestle in 2018.
