TheFourteenth Ward Industrial School is located at 256-258Mott Street betweenPrince andHouston Streets in theNolita neighborhood ofManhattan,New York City. It was built for theChildren's Aid Society in 1888–89, with funds provided byJohn Jacob Astor III, and was designed by the firm ofVaux & Radford in theVictorian Gothic style.[2] The Society built a number of schools for indigent children at the time.[2] It was later known as theAstor Memorial School.[3][4]
The building, which is now in residential use, was designated aNew York City landmark in 1977, and was added to theNational Register of Historic Places in 1983.
