The draw for the tournament was held on 27 July 2023. The teams were seeded into four pots based on their performances in the previousAsian Games in 2018. The hosts China were automatically assigned position A1.[1]Iran andCambodia withdrew.

The top team in each group, and three second-placed teams among five groups advance to the quarter-finals. The draws were held on July 27, 2023 at Hangzhou, China. The teams are drawn in 5 groups, with 3 groups of 3 teams each and 2 groups of 4 teams each. The winner of each group and 3 best runners-up will qualify to knockout stage.[1]
