Flygande Jakob (Swedish:flygande Jacob/Jakobpronounced[flyːˈgandɛjɑːˈkɔp])[1] is a Swedishcasserole composed ofchicken, whippingcream, chili sauce, bananas, roastedpeanuts, bacon and Italian salad seasoning, which is a peculiar seasoning blend available only in Sweden.[2] The dish is baked in an oven and is usually served withrice and asalad.
The dish was invented by Ove Jacobsson, who worked in the air freight industry, hence the name. Asked to make a main dish for apotluck in summer 1976, Jacobsson combined leftover ingredients into a casserole and served it at the party, where it was a hit. His neighbor, Anders Tunberg, worked forAllt om Mat (All about Food)[3][4] magazine, and thus the recipe was first published in a Swedish cooking magazine the same year.[2][5]
