Florin Alexandru Tene (born 10 November 1968) is a formerRomanian professionalfootballer who played as agoalkeeper, currently goalkeeping coach atLiga II clubVoluntari.
Tene was born on 10 November 1968 inBucharest, Romania and began playing junior-level football at local clubDinamo under the guidance of coaches Ioan Timar,Iosif Varga andIlie Balaci.[1][2][3][4] Until his youth period ended in 1987 he was teammates with fellow goalkeepersBogdan Stelea,Florin Prunea andRăzvan Lucescu.[3] He made hisDivizia A debut, playing forThe Red Dogs on 18 June 1987 under coachMircea Lucescu in a 5–4 loss toSportul Studențesc București.[1][2][3][5] That would remain his only appearance for the team, afterwards leaving to play forAutobuzul București inDivizia B.[2][3][5] After one season spent at Autobuzul, Tene returned to Divizia A football atFlacăra Moreni.[2][3][5] There, Tene spent two seasons, earning a fourth place in the first one that granted them qualification to the1989–90 UEFA Cup, where he appeared in both legs of the 4–1 loss on aggregate toFC Porto in the first round.[2][3][5][6]
In 1990 he joinedGloria Bistrița and during the1991–92 season he was transferred back to Dinamo, where coachFlorin Halagian used him in 21 league games until the end of the season as the team won the title undefeated.[2][3][5][7][8] In the following season, Tene played all four games in the1992–93 Champions League campaign, helping them eliminateKuusysi Lahti in the preliminary round, being eliminated byOlympique Marseille in the first round.[2][3][5][9] In the middle of that season he returned to play for Gloria.[2][3][5] There, in the following season he helped the club win the1993–94 Cupa României by playing five games in the campaign, including keeping a clean sheet under coachConstantin Cârstea in the 1–0 victory againstUniversitatea Craiova in thefinal.[2][3][5][10][11] In the same season he scored the only goal of his career from a penalty kick in a 5–0 victory againstSportul Studențesc.[2][3][5][11]
In 1994, Tene went for a third spell at Dinamo, and then in the middle of the1995–96 season he switched teams again, this time spending one and a half years atRapid București.[2][3][5] Subsequently, he had his only experience outside Romania, playing 10 games in the1997–98 1.Lig forKarabükspor inTurkey.[2][3][5] He returned to Romania atSteaua București.[2][3][5] In one season withThe Military Men, Tene won two trophies, including one where he kept a clean sheet under coachMihai Stoichiță in the 4–0 victory against Rapid in the1998 Supercupa României.[2][3][5][12] Additionally, he made two appearances in the victorious1998–99 Cupa României campaign, but without playing in thefinal.[2][3][5][13] Tene played in the first half of the1999–2000 Divizia A season atRocar București and the second atArgeș Pitești.[3][5] In the following season he went for a fourth spell at Dinamo where he made his last five Divizia A appearances, totaling 275 matches with one goal scored in the competition and 15 games in European competitions.[3][5][14]
Tene played six friendly games forRomania, making his debut under coachCornel Dinu on 26 August 1992 in a 2–0 victory againstMexico.[15][16] He was selected by coachAnghel Iordănescu to be part of Romania'sEuro 1996 final tournament squad, but he was not used in any games.[2][15] In the same year he played his last international match on 14 August in a 2–0 win overIsrael.[15]
For representing his country atEuro 1996, Tene was decorated byPresident of RomaniaTraian Băsescu on 25 March 2008 with the Ordinul "Meritul Sportiv" – (The Medal "The Sportive Merit") class III.[17]

After he ended his playing career, Tene worked mostly as a goalkeeper coach for various teams, having only two spells as head coach atCS Otopeni andSportul Studențesc.[2][18][19] In 2013, he joinedLaurențiu Reghecampf's staff, working with teams such asSteaua București,Al Hilal,Litex Lovech,Al Wahda andNeftchi Baku.[2][18]
