Flavio Cobolli (born 6 May 2002) is an Italian professionaltennis player.[1][2] He has a career-highATP singles ranking of world No. 17, achieved on 28 July 2025 and a doubles ranking of No. 191, achieved on 19 May 2025.[3] He is currently the No. 3 player from Italy.[4] Cobolli has won two ATP Tour singles titles, at the2025 Țiriac Open and at the2025 Hamburg Open. He is a JuniorGrand Slam Champion, having won2020 French Open in doubles.
Cobolli won the2020 French Openboys' doubles title withDominic Stricker.[5]
He reached his maiden Challenger final at the2021 Garden Open II in Rome, Italy where he lost toJuan Manuel Cerúndolo.
Cobolli won his first ATP match on his debut at the2021 Emilia-Romagna Open in Parma as a wildcard defeating World No. 92Marcos Giron.[6][7] As a result, he reached a new career-high of World No. 386 on 31 May 2021.In August he reached his second Challenger final inBarletta, Italy where he lost to compatriotGiulio Zeppieri. As a result, he entered the top 300 at No. 281 on 30 August 2021.[3]
He reached the top 250 at No. 243 on 4 October 2021.[3] He was named as alternate at the2021 Next Generation ATP Finals.[8]
He reached a new career high in the top 200 on 10 January 2022 at No. 199.[3]In March, he won his maiden Challenger title at the2022 Zadar Open in Croatia. As a result, he reached the top 150 on 4 April 2022 at World No. 147.[3]Cobolli made his Masters main draw debut at the2022 Rome Masters after receiving a wildcard into the singles and doubles main draws.[citation needed]
Cobolli qualified for the2023 BMW Open and defeatedJordan Thompson in the first round andOscar Otte in the second to reach his first ATP quarterfinal.[9]Cobolli qualified for the main draw at theRome Masters after receiving a wildcard into the singles qualifying draw but was defeated byArthur Rinderknech in the first round.[citation needed]
He made his Major debut at the2023 French Open, defeating Mathys Erhard,Lukas Klein andLaurent Lokoli in qualifying. In the first round he faced World No. 1Carlos Alcaraz onCourt Suzanne Lenglen and was defeated in straight sets.[citation needed]

He won his second Challenger title at the2023 Lisboa Belém Open defeatingBenjamin Hassan in the final.[10]He reached the top 100 after his fifth Challenger final inOlbia, Italy at world No. 95 on 23 October 2023.[3] In November, he qualified for the2023 Next Generation ATP Finals.[11][12] There, he defeatedDominic Stricker but lost toArthur Fils andLuca Nardi and failed to progress to the semifinals.[citation needed]
As the top qualifying seed at the2024 Australian Open, he reached the main draw making his debut at this Major[13] and recorded his first win with an upset over 18th seedNicolás Jarry, his first top 20 and top 50 win,[14][15] andPavel Kotov to reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.[16]
In February, he reached his second ATP quarterfinal at the2024 Open Sud de France with wins over two Frenchmen, eighth seedGaël Monfils andConstant Lestienne.[17]He won his first round main draw match as a lucky loser at the2024 Delray Beach Open defeatingTaro Daniel, in the next round he defeated qualifierZachary Svajda to reach back-to back-quarterfinals and break into the top 70 in the rankings on 19 February 2024.[3] In the quarterfinals he lost to second seedFrances Tiafoe.[18] He qualified for the next tournament, the2024 Los Cabos Open but lost toYoshihito Nishioka in the first round.[19] The following week he qualified for his first ATP 500 tournament, the2024 Abierto Mexicano Telcel and defeatedFélix Auger-Aliassime in the opening round, before falling toStefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16.[20][21][22]
At the2024 Mutua Madrid Open he reached the third round of a Masters for the first time defeating two Chileans,Alejandro Tabilo and again 22nd seed Nicolás Jarry.[23] As a result, he moved into the top 60 of the rankings for the first time on 6 May 2024. At his home tournament, theItalian Open, he reached the second round with a win overMaximilian Marterer before losing toSebastian Korda despite leading with a break in the third set.[24]At the2024 Geneva Open he reached his third ATP quarterfinal for the season with wins overAslan Karatsev and fourth seedBen Shelton in three sets.[25] He defeatedAlexander Shevchenko in straight sets in the quarterfinals to reach his first ATP semifinal, where he lost to second seed and eventual championCasper Ruud despite having match point.[citation needed] Following the2024 French Open where he lost in the second round toHolger Rune in a fifth set tiebreak,[citation needed] Cobolli reached the top 50 on 10 June 2024.[3]
At the beginning of the American hardcourt season inWashington, he reached his first ATP final defeatingDavid Goffin, eight seedAlejandro Davidovich Fokina, saving 5 match points,[citation needed] 15th seedAlex Michelsen and second seedBen Shelton,[citation needed] before losing to Korda again in the final. As a result, he reached a new career high ranking of No. 33 on 5 August 2024.[26] The week after, he reached the second round at the2024 National Bank Open in Montreal on his debut, with a win over 14th seedFélix Auger-Aliassime,[citation needed] and moved to a new career-high ranking of world No. 31 on 12 August 2024.[3] At his next tournament inCincinnati Cobolli recorded the biggest win of his career thus far over 10th seedTommy Paul, saving three match points.[27][28] He reached a second Masters third round defeating compatriotLuciano Darderi by retirement. There, he was defeated by fifth seedHubert Hurkacz in three sets.[citation needed]At theUS Open he reached the third round defeatingJames Duckworth andZizou Bergs,[16] before losing to fifth seedDaniil Medvedev in straight sets.[29]
Following the US Open, Cobolli was chosen for Italy'sDavis Cup team inBologna. In his first match representing Italy, he lost to Bergs in a rematch of their US Open match. In his second match, he scored his first Davis Cup win, defeatingTallon Griekspoor in three tight sets.[30]He represented Team Europe at theLaver Cup as first alternate. Following his participation in the exhibition tournament, Cobolli reached the top 30 on 30 September 2024.[31]
He began the Asian swing inBeijing where he played eight seedAlexander Bublik in the first round and won in a third set tiebreak, saving match point en route to victory.[citation needed] In the second round he faced Kotov for the third time this season and defeated him in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals. He lost to third seed Medvedev again, only managing to convert one of eleven break point opportunities.[32] At theShanghai Masters he was seeded 28th and thus received a bye to the second round. There, he facedStan Wawrinka, winning in three sets to set up a match against his idolNovak Djokovic,[33] where Cobolli was defeated in straight sets. His following tournament was inVienna where he defeated Davidovich Fokina for the second time in the season,[34] before suffering an injury in the second round againstAlex de Minaur.[35] This shoulder injury ended his season, as he did not play another match for the rest of the year.
Cobolli had a slow start to his 2025 season. Representing Italy at the2025 United Cup he reached the quarterfinals, earning a comeback top 20 win overUgo Humbert, saving match point. However, he was routinely defeated byTomas Machac.[citation needed] At his next tournament inAuckland he retired in his opening match toLuca Nardi citing a thigh injury. In the first round of the Australian Open, he lost toTomás Etcheverry in four sets,[36] marking his first Grand Slam loss to a player ranked outside the top 20.[citation needed] Cobolli's February did not fare much better with opening round losses tode Jong inMontpellier,[citation needed]Hurkacz inRotterdam[citation needed] andShelton inAcapulco.[citation needed]
At theBNP Paribas Open he was defeated in three sets by American qualifierColton Smith.[citation needed]The seven consecutive defeats marked Cobolli's longest losing streak as a professional.[citation needed] In an effort to turn his form around, Cobolli entered thePhoenix Challenger, as the second seed. There, he earned his first win since December overEliot Spizzirri in a tight three-set match, finally ending his losing streak.[citation needed] The following week, returning to the ATP Tour inMiami, he was defeated in the opening round by the ArgentinianThiago Agustín Tirante from a break up in the third set.[citation needed]
Cobolli arrived at theȚiriac Open inBucharest as the third seed with a win-loss record of 1–8 for the season. There, with wins overRichard Gasquet,Filip Misolic andDamir Džumhur he reached his second ATP Final and first on clay. He then defeated first seedSebastián Báez to win the first ATP title of his career.[37] Following up on his success inBucharest, he won his opening match at theMonte-Carlo Masters over veteranDušan Lajović before falling to in-form FrenchmanArthur Fils.[citation needed]Cobolli's next tournament was inMunich where he fell in the opening round to KazakhAlexander Shevchenko.[citation needed] Next he played inMadrid, missing out on a seeding spot by one place. There, he earned a strong straight sets win overFábián Marozsán before beating eight seedHolger Rune who was forced to retire after losing the first set, to reach the third round. The win marked Cobolli's 50th on the ATP Tour and his first over a top 10 player.[citation needed]At his home tournament inRome, Flavio was defeated in his first round match against fellow ItalianNardi.[citation needed] After the match he lamented not having had the chance to prove himself on the centre court, instead being scheduled to play on smaller, emptier courts[38]
Again, lacking confidence and wins, Cobolli arrived inHamburg for his final tournament before the French Open. After a slow start againstVitaliy Sachko in the opening round, he turned the match around to win in three sets.[citation needed] In the following round he defeatedAlejandro Davidovich Fokina for the third time in three meetings to reach his second quarterfinal of the season.[citation needed] With victories overRoberto Bautista Agut and Tomás Martín Etcheverry (coming back from 2–6, 1–3 down to win), he reached his third career ATP Final and second at ATP 500 level.[citation needed] In the final he faced former world No. 5 and former championAndrey Rublev. He played the best match of his career, defeating Rublev in straight sets, and lifted the biggest trophy of his career so far. As a result, he reached a new career high ranking of No. 26.[39][3]
Next, he competed at Roland Garros unseeded. He beat former US Open championMarin Čilić and compatriotMatteo Arnaldi to reach the third round. There he played third seedAlexander Zverev on Court Phillipe Chatrier where he was defeated in three sets.[citation needed]Cobolli started his grass season inHalle where he dispatchedJoao Fonseca, saving a match point in the process, andDenis Shapovalov to reach the quarterfinals. In a rematch of their French Open match, Cobolli faced Zverev who again defeated him.[citation needed] Despite this, Cobolli reached a career high ranking of No. 24.[3]
At the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, Cobolli was the 22nd seed. In the first round he defeated qualifierZhukayev and local wildcardPinnington Jones to achieve his best result at Wimbledon by reaching the third round.[citation needed] There he easily defeated 15th seedJakub Menšík in straight sets to reach his first slam second week.[citation needed] In the fourth round, he faced Cilic again for the second time in a Grand Slam this season. He defeated the Croat in four tight sets to reach his first ever Grand Slam quarterfinal.[citation needed] Next, he faced his idol and 7-time Wimbledon championNovak Djokovic on Centre Court where he won the first set 7–6(6) saving a set point, however he was eventually defeated in four sets by the 24-time Grand Slam champion.[40] Nonetheless, this result guaranteed him a new career high ranking of world No. 19 on 14 July 2025.[41]
He is the son of former tennis playerStefano Cobolli. He grew up inSubiaco, in theMetropolitan City of Rome Capital.
In 2024, he stated that his tennis idol isNovak Djokovic.[33]
In May 2024, Cobolli signed a deal with sneaker brandOn. He had been sponsored byLotto Sport Italia before On.[42]
He is an avid fan of the Italian football clubAS Roma and was part of their youth setup.[43]
