Finland was represented at theEurovision Song Contest 1993 with the song "Tule luo", composed byMatti Puurtinen [fi], with lyrics byJukka Saarinen [fi], and performed byKatri Helena. The Finnish participating broadcaster,Yleisradio (Yle), selected its entry in the contest through a national final. This was Katri Helena's second Eurovision appearance, 14 years after representFinland in 1979.
Due to theearly 1990s depression in Finland, the competition was held as small-scale as possible.Yleisradio (Yle) invited eight composers for the competition, and invited four singers (Arja Koriseva,Katri Helena,Marjorie, andPaula Koivuniemi) to perform the songs, each with two songs. Yle held the national final,Euroviisut1993, at its television studios inHelsinki, hosted byAri Korvola [fi]. The winner was chosen by voting from eleven regional juries. Each jury group distributed their points as follows: 1–6, 8 and 10 points.[1][2]
In addition to the performances of the competing entries, the interval acts featured Helen Hoffner performing "Summer of Love" and "Holy River", andNiklas Strömstedt performing "I hennes rum" and "När vindarna vill".[3]
