Finnish-Greek relations are foreign relations betweenFinland andGreece. Greece was among the first countries to recognize the independence of Finland, on January 5, 1918. Both countries established diplomatic relations in 1920.Since February 1, 1977, Finland has had an embassy inAthens. For a long period Finland was represented in Greece through its embassies either inBucharest,Rome orBelgrade. Greece has an embassy inHelsinki.
Both countries are full members of theEuropean Union,NATO,Council of Europe, andEurozone. There are 1,681Greeks living in Finland,[1] and 1,600Finns living in Greece.[2] Greece fully supported Finland's application to joinNATO, which resulted in membership on 4 April 2023.In September 2022, Greece fully approved Finland's application forNATO membership.[3]
